The first 48 hours

1. Call, then visit, every shelter above. File a lost-pet report with each one.
2. Move fast. Stray holds are short — often just a few days — before an animal can be adopted out or transferred.
3. Microchipped? Report the pet lost to your chip registry so a scan anywhere flags it — find which registry holds the chip here.
4. Watch the arrivals feed. Every new shelter intake nearby, freshest first — check it daily.
5. Post where neighbors look: Nextdoor and local lost-&-found Facebook groups, with a clear photo.
